About Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini and Capuchin Crypt

This church was built between 1626 – 1631 and designed by Antoni Casoni. There are several side chapels: the first chapel has a altarpiece of St. Michael the Archangel, by Guido Reni; the second chapel has a Nativity, by Lanfranco; the third chapel has a Saint Francis receives Stigmata, by Domenichino;  the forth chapel has a Prayer in the Gesthemane, by Baccio Ciarpi; the fifth chapel has a Saint Anthony, by Sacchi. There is also a crypt under the church called, the Capuchin Crypt. Within the crypt are the remains of roughly 4000 friars, buried between 1500 and 1870.

Useful Information

The ticket office closes 30 minutes before the museum closes.

Roma pass is not accepted.

Dress conservatively – thin strapped shirts and short shorts are prohibited. As an alternative, carry a scarf to cover your shoulders and legs while visiting the Basilica.

There are many vendors around Rome that sell cheap scarves.
