Latvian National Museum of Art

About the Latvian National Museum of Art

During the Soviet occupation, the State Museum of Art collections were reorganised into two sections – Latvian and Russian Art (now the National Latvian Museum of Art), a museum for Foreign collections (now the Riga Bourse). Today, 4 museums fall under the National Latvian Museum of Art: Latvian Museum of Art, Riga Bourse, Museum of Decorative Arts & Design, and Arsenals Exhibition Hall, all featuring different aspects of art. Visitors of the Latvian National Museum of Art can see art displayed in chronological order between 1945 and 2000, specifically focusing on art during the Soviet occupation and the first decade of Latvian independence. Works of famous artists include: Niklāvs Strunke, Boriss Bērziņš, Ilmārs Blumbergs, and Andris Breže. There are approximately 500 pieces of art displayed throughout the museum.
