Museum of the Ara Pacis ~ Museo dell’Ara Pacis
About the Museum of the Ara Pacis
The main feature at the museum is the Ara Pacis Augustae altar, dedicated to Pax, the Roman Goddess of Peace. The alar was built in 13 BC to honour the return of Augustus back to Rome after being away for 3 years. It reflects the Augustan vision of Roman civil religion. In 2006, the current Museum of the Ara Pacis was built by Richard Meier and now has several rooms, including the Ara Pacis Augustae altar.
